VISI-ONE Innovation Hub launch event held

The International Blind Football Foundation (IBF Foundation), the Japan Blind Football Association (JBFA) and Skylight Consulting Inc. (Skylight) held a launch event of VISI-ONE Innovation Hub on 29 October in Tokyo. Around 20 people from companies and other organizations attended the event.

 
In his opening remarks, Eigo Matsuzaki,  Representative Directorof the IBF Foundation, gave a presentation on what possibilities the VISI-ONE Innovation Hub will open up under the theme of ‘Why vision challenges x innovation x business x global now?
 Mr. Matsyzaki explained the background to the establishment of this innovation hub, including the current situation of visually impaired people around the world, the importance of this topic as a social issue, the fact that many people in developing countries cannot receive treatment that is available in developed countries, and the fact that various technologies have rapidly evolved in recent years, increasing the potential for solving problems. The background to the establishment of the Innovation Hub was explained. He stressed that the ‘neutrality and hub function of sport’ and the ‘trans-disciplinary power of blind football’ would play an important role in solving these issues.


  This was followed by a multi-stakeholder crosstalk with Toshiki Habutsu, President, Skylight Consulting Inc, and Yoshiko Ina(Graduate student of National University Corporation Tsukuba University of Technology), a participant from Japan in the leadership programme ‘The Global Leadership Camp for visually impaired people, Supported by Skylight’. Mr. Matsuzaki facilitated the event.
 Mr. Habutsu spoke about the potential of the global market for visual challenges and the reasons why his company became the inaugural company in the VISI-ONE Innovation Hub. Mr. Ina presented hints for thinking about visual challenges, such as what difficulties visually impaired people are experiencing.
